At the heart of NAMEL’s journey stands our visionary founder, Dr. Ahmed Adekunle. With a versatile background spanning farmer, entrepreneur, financing expert, and agricultural sector administrator, Dr. Adekunle embarked on a mission to establish NAMEL, bridging the gap between farmers’ aspirations and their challenges. Infused with a profound understanding of Nigeria’s agricultural landscape and an unwavering commitment to transformation, he envisions a future characterised by modernised, efficient, and sustainable farming practices – a future poised to overcome the challenges of our era.

A Visionary Technocrat

Dr. Ahmed Adekunle is a technocrat with over thirty-five years of experience in Agricultural Mechanization and machinery, Financial and Loan Syndication, Commodity Merchandising, and the revitalisation of farmers and cooperative movements. He is also the visionary founder of several agricultural service provision companies, including Nigeria Investment Cooperative Agency Limited, Dynamic AgroSol Limited, DSA Consult Limited, BBC Consult Limited, and OSS Venture Limited.

Leadership and Impact

Dr. Adekunle’s impact spans numerous influential roles. He chaired the Advisory Ministerial Mechanization Committee (AMMC) from 2013 to 2015, overseeing the nationwide implementation of FMARD’s Private Sector Driven Agricultural Mechanization Programme (PSDAMP). He served as the Senior Adviser to the former Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina. Additionally, he assumed the role of Regional Consultant for the African Union (AU) & Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in a consultancy project to develop a Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization Strategy (SAMS) for Rwanda and East Africa in 2016.

Driving Agricultural Mechanization

Dr. Adekunle’s influence extends to his role as the Senior Technical Adviser on Mechanization from 2015 to 2018 for the current Honourable Minister of Agriculture (HMA). He also served as the Project Coordinator from 2016 to 2018, overseeing the coordination between HMA’s core team and the FMARD workforce. Dr. Adekunle’s commitment to agricultural mechanisation is unwavering, focusing on propelling the growth of agricultural mechanisation in Nigeria and Africa.

Empowering Smallholder Farmers

His dedication centres around optimising smallholder performance and increasing productivity. He achieves this by empowering farmers through the provision of accessible Agricultural Tractors. His innovative approach includes successfully adapting the conventional lease program from the corporate world to benefit farmers through Public Private Partnership arrangements with the Federal Government of Nigeria and international and national stakeholders in agriculture.
