LEASING AGRO MACHINERIES TO SMALLHOLDER FARMERS

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

LEASING AGRO MACHINERIES TO SMALLHOLDER FARMERS (LAS-F) is a scheme structured to deploy small and medium scale agro machinery to smallholder farmers who cannot afford or may not require buying/hiring tractors/heavy-duty equipment because of their small fam holding.

The scheme provides farmers with equipment whose value ranges from Fifty Thousand to One Million Five Hundred Naira (N50,000 – N1,500,000) after the initial payment of 30 – 40 % equity, the balance will be spread over 24 months on a lease finance basis with negotiable interest rate.

The objective of the scheme is to bridge the gap between smallholder farmers and access to finance for modern technologies by allowing lessee/cooperatives/farmers to own the much needed small and medium scale agro – machinery for Land preparation, Farm management, harvest, and post-harvest operations on a lease finance model. And this will ultimately remove drudgery and increase efficiency in farm operations.

Through Las – F, NAMEL in collaboration with its partners will ensure the deployment of quality and standardized equipment to complement investment, built the capacity of the farmers' good agricultural practices, agricultural lending and loan repayment and promote good maintenance culture to ensure sustainability and technology application for optimum productivity.
