Project Description
The Nigerian Agricultural Mechanization and Equipment Leasing Company (NAMEL) played a pivotal role as a Mechanization Service Provider under the CBN Anchor Borrower Programme. The objective was to execute farm tillage operations for beneficiary farmers across various communities, encompassing ploughing, harrowing, and ridging. This initiative was conducted in collaboration with accredited Commodity Associations, contributing to the success of the nationwide project.
Project Scope and Implementation:
The project catered to a diverse range of landholdings, spanning from 0.5 hectares to 10 hectares per location. NAMEL’s involvement was instrumental in ensuring the effective execution of mechanised tillage operations across numerous beneficiaries.
Accredited Commodity Associations and Impact:
Nigerian Cassava Growers Association (NCGA) Nationwide Project: Collaborating with the NCGA, NAMEL served as a mechanisation service provider for a nationwide initiative involving 14,202 farmers, significantly enhancing cassava cultivation on a national scale.
Ogun State Government Facilitated NCGA Anchor Borrowers Programme: In Ogun State, NAMEL extended its mechanisation services to 2,497 farmers, contributing to the advancement of cassava farming in the region.
National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN): In Yobe, Gombe, Taraba, Bauchi, and Oyo States, NAMEL’s engagement spanned 20,310 hectares, supporting cotton production and bolstering the cotton sector.
Maize Association of Nigeria (MAAN): Across the nation, NAMEL’s contribution encompassed 65,000 hectares under the Maize Association of Nigeria, further reinforcing the cultivation of maize for food security and economic growth.
By serving as a mechanisation service provider in implementing the CBN’s Anchor Borrower Scheme, NAMEL effectively facilitated mechanised farm tillage operations for multiple accredited Commodity Associations. Through our engagement, we significantly enhanced agricultural productivity, empowered farmers, and fostered economic development in diverse regions across Nigeria.
