Project Description

The Nigerian Agricultural Mechanization and Equipment Leasing Company (NAMEL) played a crucial role in successfully executing a significant agricultural project in collaboration with the Nigerian Cassava Growers Association (NCGA). This project, conducted under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Anchor Borrower’s Programme (ABP), aimed to enhance the efficiency and productivity of cassava cultivation across multiple states in Nigeria.

Project Scope and Execution:

The project focused on executing essential land preparation operations, encompassing ploughing, harrowing, and ridging. These crucial steps were carried out to ensure the soil was optimally conditioned for cassava cultivation. By adhering to global best practices in agricultural mechanisation, NAMEL promotes healthy soil tilth, conservation, and maximum productivity from each hectare of land.

Geographical Reach and Collaboration:

The project’s impact was far-reaching, covering a total land area of 5,683 hectares spanning 19 states within Nigeria. The extensive coverage encompassed states such as Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Delta, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Sokoto, and Kebbi. By engaging with various states, NAMEL and NCGA collaborated to advance cassava cultivation on a significant scale.

Achievements and Reporting:

The project’s execution adhered to real-time data reporting, ensuring that progress was continually monitored and evaluated. This approach allowed for effective operations tracking, making adjustments when necessary to ensure the project’s success. Through NAMEL’s expertise and commitment to global standards, the project achieved its goals of enhancing soil quality, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and boosting cassava production.

The collaboration between NAMEL and the Nigerian Cassava Growers Association (NCGA) showcases the potential of strategic partnerships in driving agricultural development. By leveraging advanced mechanisation techniques and embracing best practices, this project made significant strides in contributing to Nigeria’s agricultural growth and food security.
